Lexus Philippines is expanding its lineup by joining the luxury subcompact crossover segment with its latest entry-level model, the Lexus LBX

Made for customers who are looking into buying their first Lexus, or those who already have a Lexus vehicle in their garage and are looking for a more affordable option, the Lexus LBX is based on the TNGA-built Toyota Yaris Cross from other markets like Japan. In fact, it is the first Lexus model to be built on the TNGA-B platform. For reference, it will compete with the likes of the Audi Q2.

In terms of design, the LBX follows Lexus’ Next Chapter design language which are seen on the current generation NX, RX, and RZ crossovers. Front and center is what they call the deconstructed spindle grille. This gives it a more low-key and cleaner look compared to other models in their lineup.

It also definitely shows its smaller dimensions with a length of 4,190 mm, width of 1,825 mm, and height of 1,560 mm, on a 2,580 mm wheelbase. Eight exterior color options can be had with the LBX: Sonic Quartz, Silver Metallic, Astro Gray Metallic, Red Spinel, Sonic Copper, Sonic Chrome, Passionate Yellow, and Deep Azure Mica Metallic, all matched with a black roof.

Inside, the LBX was designed following the Tazuna concept which positions important controls and information displays immediately around the driver, while maintaining a clean and simple appearance, allowing for the feeling of more space as well.

Among its standard equipment are full LED lighting, Tsuyusami charcoal-effect interior trim inlays, 9.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six speaker audio system, power tailgate, among others.

Powering the 2024 Lexus LBX is a 1.5-liter Inline 3-cylinder gasoline engine. Codenamed as the M15A-FXE, it is paired with a nickel-metal hydride battery and produces a total combined output of 136 horsepower and 185 Nm of torque, mated to an e-CVT. This powertrain is also shared with Toyota models such as the Yaris and Yaris Cross Hybrid from other markets.

For safety, the 2024 Lexus LBX is equipped with a suite of advanced driver-assist systems known as Lexus Safety System, composed of a Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Lane Change Assist, Adaptive High-beam System, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitor, and Parking Support Brake.

Being the brand’s smallest crossover, the 2024 Lexus LBX is also their most affordable with a suggested retail price of Php 2,968,000, also making it more affordable compared to its rivals. So, what do you think of the all-new Lexus LBX? Would you go for this over other small luxury crossovers?
