New car sales drop in April 2026, electrified vehicle sales grows in market share

New car sales in the Philippines for April 2026 are lower compared to March 2026, based on the latest report from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).
An estimated 32,400 new vehicles were sold throughout the month of April, with 27,225 units from CAMPI and TMA member brands. The estimated industry sales figure is 17% lower compared to March 2026, and 8% lower compared to the same month last year.
Toyota remains as the top-selling brand for general April 2026 sales with 14,284 units sold. Mitsubishi and Suzuki follow in second and third places with 3,711 and 1,339 units sold, respectively. Geely has breached into the top five, placing itself in fourth with 1,119 units sold, and Ford rounds up the top five with 1,116 units sold.
Nissan has dropped to seventh place with a 53.8% decline in sales, and Honda has dropped to 10th place with a massive 68.3% decline in sales. Hyundai was also dropped from the top 10, now placing in 13th with a 43.4% decline in sales.
Electrified vehicle sales also declined with 5,855 units sold, but now holds a larger 22% of all new vehicle sales from CAMPI-TMA members. Of this, 419 units are battery electric vehicles (BEV), 1,329 units are plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), and 4,107 units are hybrid electric vehicles (HEV).
Tesla takes back the top spot once again for BEV sales with 92 units sold, followed by Geely in a close second with 90 units sold. MG is in third with 51 units sold, followed by Omoda and Jaecoo in fourth with 48 units sold. Rounding up the top five for BEV sales is Ford with 30 units sold. Last month’s top BEV brand, VinFast, has no sales reported for April 2026.
For PHEV sales, Geely is on top with 493 units sold, followed by Jetour in second with 387 units sold, then Omoda and Jaecoo in third with 167 units sold. Chery is in fourth place with 86 units sold, and Changan closes the top five with 82 units sold.
Finally, for HEV sales, Toyota tops the list with 2,870 units sold, followed by Ford in second with 569 units sold, then MG in third with 219 units sold. In fourth is Omoda and Jaecoo with 112 units sold, and in fifth is Honda with 87 units sold.
These trends in vehicle sales are attributed to car buyers looking for more practical vehicles, particularly for low displacement or fuel and energy efficient vehicles, due to the fluctuating prices of fuel caused by the Middle East crisis from the past few months.
CAMPI and TMA still remain optimistic despite that, especially with the upcoming 10th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) which is happening this coming June 4-7, 2026, where participating brands are expected to showcase new and future product offerings for our market, with half of these to be electrified.
