Nissan officially reveals Nissan Kicks e-Power in Thailand

Will it be the replacement of the Nissan Juke in South East Asia?

Nissan has officially unveiled the updated Nissan Kicks with their e-Power technology in Thailand. This marks the launch of e-Power in the ASEAN Region. This also marks the first time the company puts its e-Power technology in a crossover.

The all-new Nissan Kicks e-Power shows off a new front fascia. There is a new set of wrap-around LED headlights with follow-me home function, which are connected by the large signature Nissan V-Motion grille. It also gets a set of LED fog lights. On the side it gets a set of 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels. The rear on the other hand is only slightly updated compared to the outgoing pre-facelift model. The taillights are also now LED units. It also gets two-tone exterior colors.

Inside, the Kicks still gets basically the same dashboard design from the pre-facelift model. The seats are finished with a two-tone color combination which makes for a quirky look. In the center is the 8-inch Nissan Connect touchscreen infotainment system. Connectivity includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets a 7-inch driver information display.

The Nissan Kicks e-Power features a 100% electric-motor driven system composed of a 1.2-liter three cylinder gasoline engine, power generator, e-motor, and a lithium-ion battery. It produces 127 hp and 260 Nm of torque. The e-Power system makes the vehicle run completely on electric power without the need for external charging. The gasoline engine is purely for charging the generator and stores the electricity produced in the batteries which are driven by an electric motor. It also comes with one-pedal technology which allows the driver to accelerate and slow down using only the accelerator pedal.

As with many other Nissan offerings today, the Kicks also gets the Nissan Intelligent Mobility safety suite. It includes a 360-degree around view monitor, adaptive cruise control, blindspot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking. Other safety features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill-Start Assist, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Intelligent Ride Control, and Intelligent Trace Control.

Pricing in Thailand will start at THB 889,000 or around Php 1,405,000 for the base S variant. It tops out at THB 1,049,000 or around Php 1,660,000 for the top-spec VL variant.

What does this mean for the Philippines? According to an article by our friends from Autoindustriya.com, the Kicks nameplate has been trademarked in the country since 2018. This means that there is a higher chance of it being launched here. It could also mean that it would be the replacement of the local market Juke. In other markets such as the USA, the Kicks serves as a direct replacement to the Juke. There are no two markets where they are sold at the same time. There is no word yet however from Nissan Philippines as to whether they’ll be launching the Kicks instead of the second generation of the Juke. If ever it is launched here, it should compete directly with the Honda HR-V, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, and Geely Coolray.
