PIMS 2022: Chery Tiggo 8 Pro AWD variant launched

A couple of months ago, at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), Chery Auto Philippines unveiled to the public its new flagship crossover offering, the Tiggo 8 Pro. Initially, it came in two variants, the 1.6 Turbo, and PHEV. Now, at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), they’ve introduced another variant, the 2.0 AWD Turbo.

With the aggressive local introduction of our crossovers, we are planting the seeds of an innovation movement that disrupts long-established customer beliefs on who can only enjoy the latest automotive technology,” said Chery Auto Philippines President Erroll P. Dueñas.

So what’s different with the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 2.0 AWD? Well first is its powertrain. This new variant gets a 2.0-liter Inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 254 horsepower and 390 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Based on our own testing, its 0 to 100 kph acceleration time is around 7 to 8 seconds.

There are also some other differences compared to the 1.6 Turbo variant throughout the exterior and interior. First, the Tiggo 8 Pro 2.0 AWD Turbo’s exterior is identical to the PHEV variant with its more 3D front grille and clear taillight lenses. It also gets the same interior as the PHEV. Among its standard equipment are full LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof, leather seating, interior mood lighting, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a Sony audio system.

In addition, just like the 1.6 Turbo variant, the 2.0 AWD Turbo is equipped with a full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. This gives it adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, traffic jam assist, autonomous emergency braking, blindspot detection, lane departure warning, and intelligent high beam control.

Pricing for the 2023 Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 2.0 AWD Turbo has not yet been announced but it could range between Php 1,900,000 and Php 2,000,000. That places it perfectly in between the Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6 Turbo and Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV.
