The Getaway is the most powerful production Subaru yet with 420 horsepower

A fourth Subaru electric vehicle has landed, and it’s the result of Subaru and Toyota’s collaboration. We first saw the Solterra (bZ4x), followed by the Trailseeker / e-Outback, then the smaller Uncharted (CH-R+). Now, we get the Getaway, which is the Subaru twin of the Highlander BEV, but with a little added spice to set it apart.

This three-row electric SUV produces 420 horsepower from its dual electric motors with a 0-100kph time of less than five seconds, making it not only more powerful than the Highlander BEV but also the most powerful production Subaru ever made, even surpassing the Japan-only 2018 Subaru WRX STI TC380’s power rating of 380 horsepower.

More practical specs include the standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with the X-Mode system, 210mm of ground clearance, and a 95.8kWh lithium-ion battery capable of more than 483km on a single charge. It can be fast-charged at rates of up to 150kW, bringing it from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes. Come 2027, there will be a standard-range model with a smaller 77kWh lithium-ion battery and still with the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

The Getaway retains the Highlander BEV’s sleek, futuristic appearance with smooth body panels all around. The changes start with Subaru’s “six-bar” lighting signature, both front and back, an illuminated Subaru logo (which is a wordmark at the back), two-tone 19 or 20-inch wheels, and a beefy roof rack.

The interior features a 14-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, along with two wireless phone chargers, multiple USB-C ports, ambient lighting, and leather seats that are heated up to the third row, with ventilation only for the first and second rows.

This offers power seats everywhere, with space for adults up to six feet tall, and a power-folding third row that allows up to 1,291L of cargo behind the second row. There is also a panoramic sunroof and multiple storage compartments, because this is a family SUV, and of course, it comes with the EyeSight suite of advanced driver assistance tech, too.

Granted that this may only be a US-only model (as with the case of the Highlander BEV) that will launch later this year, but would this make a compelling alternative to the likes of the also US-sourced Evoltis if Subaru Philippines were to offer it?
