This new Hyundai MPV prototype is a rebadged Kia
When it comes to multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs), one brand that has a lot to offer is Hyundai with its wide lineup that consists of the Staria and Custin minivans, and the Stargazer and Stargazer X.
Soon, the Korean automaker will have more to offer as it recently unveiled at the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) the new Neira Prototype. What makes this interesting is the fact that it’s not actually as new as you might think it is.
Beyond the Hyundai badging and slight changes here and there, the Hyundai Neira Prototype is actually a rebadged version of the Kia Carens that is currently available in markets like India, Indonesia, South Africa, and Vietnam. It’s named after the Indonesian island of Banda Neira, and will be built at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI) plant.
Changes are very minimal compared to the Kia Carens, with slightly different wheel designs, Hyundai badging, a redesigned front panel, and more ruggedly styled rocker panels. Other than that, it keeps pretty much everything from Kia’s design book such as the Opposites United design language with Star Map LED lighting signatures, and likely even its interior.
Specifications and features of the production version of the Hyundai Neira Prototype will be announced at a later date, but it will likely share the same electric powertrain as the Carens EV. That would be a motor that makes 169 horsepower and 295Nm of torque, with a range of up to 490km on a single charge.
