Volkswagen unveils all-new Lamando in China

2 min read

Volkswagen has just revealed the all-new second generation of its Lamando nameplate in China. Produced by the German brand’s joint venture with SAIC Motors, the all-new Lamando is now a liftback as opposed to the model it replaces which is a compact sedan.

The all-new 2nd generation Volkswagen Lamando takes on a totally new design language compared to other VW models. It rides on the brand’s MQB Evo Platform which underpins many of its other models, and is also larger in every dimension, being completely redesigned.

In terms of looks, the all-new Lamando features an exterior, inspired by Volkswagen’s ID family of electric vehicles. The front fascia features a large intake on the bumper, accented by an aggressive-looking pair of bi-projector headlights which are connected to each other by an LED light strip. The Volkswagen emblem in the center is also lit-up. The rear design is also inspired by the ID with the Lamando’s new LED wraparound taillights. Higher variants will wear a set of 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the all-new Lamando features a more modern and tech-filled cabin. Immediately noticeable are the dual large screens composed of a new 10-inch digital instrument cluster and 12-inch infotainment system. It also features a new W-HUD heads-up display system. Other features include leather sport seats, a Beats audio system, electronic gear selector, and rear A/C vents.

Under the hood, the all-new Volkswagen Lamando retains the outgoing model’s 1.4-liter turbocharged TSI petrol engine that produces 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). This should allow it to go from 0 to 100 kph in around 8.5 seconds.

The all-new Lamando is also equipped with driver-assistance tech such as adaptive cruise control, intelligent automatic parking, and a 360-degree around-view monitor.

The 2022 Volkswagen Lamando is expected to be released in the Chinese market in March. We don’t know yet if Volkswagen Philippines has plans to continue selling the Lamando nameplate locally, perhaps we can see within the year or two.
