Resellers already putting huge premiums on top of new Toyota Alphard’s SRP

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has just very recently introduced the all-new generation of the Toyota Alphard here in the Philippine market and unfortunately, as expected, it seems that some particular people have already taken advantage.

Unsurprisingly, some people who were lucky to have purchased a unit from the first batch sold by TMP are now reselling them “slightly used” or even as “brand new” with huge premiums on top of how much they were originally sold for by authorized Toyota dealers.

One example is this listing we saw on Facebook Marketplace which is selling a brand new unit of the all-new Alphard (complete with plastic protection for shipping) for a whopping Php 7.8-million, that’s Php 2.8-million above the model’s maximum suggested retail price (SRP)! Another listing is selling a unit for even higher at Php 8-million.

Obviously, the one on the losing end here is the customer who will have to fork out additional amounts of their hard earned cash just to acquire a unit as these resellers may even have already exhausted TMP’s supply.

If you remember, the market saw a similar situation when the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 was introduced locally last year. Not only did resellers put huge premiums, even authorized Toyota dealers themselves did the same, all because supply was low at that time.

This prompted TMP to release a statement about its One Price Policy among their network of authorized dealerships. Unfortunately there really isn’t much they can do with regards to other individuals reselling their units at exorbitant prices.

Perhaps doing a background check will do, just like what Honda Cars Philippines did when it started selling its second batch of the previous generation Civic Type R (FK8) which also saw a similar situation with resellers adding huge premiums on top of the SRP.
