Toyota Gazoo Racing concludes GT Cup Asia 2024, Team PH places 4th overall

Toyota Gazoo Racing recently held the 2024 GT Cup Asia Finals in Malaysia.

The 2024 Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) GT Cup Asia Finals was held over the weekend in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Held at the Connexion Conference and Event Centre, a total of 15 e-racers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and of course the Philippines, battled it out on the virtual racetrack and the results are finally in.

The Asia Finals consisted of three races on different racetracks and using different Toyota GR models. The first race was held on the fictional Italian Sardegna Windmills with the Toyota GR Yaris, the second on Germany’s Nürburgring GP with the Toyota GR Corolla, and the final race on Japan’s Fuji Speedway with the Toyota GR 010 Hybrid.

Malaysia’s Taj Aiman came out as champion and will represent Asia at the Global Finals.

Representing the continent at the 2024 TGR GT Cup Global Finals which will be held in December is Taj Aiman of Malaysia who came out as champion, and Andika Rama Maulana of Indonesia who took second place.

Meanwhile for the Philippine Team, Russel Reyes, who is also competing on the actual racetrack at the TGR Philippine Cup under the Novice Class, finished in seventh place overall, Luis Moreno in tenth, and Enzo Ison in thirteenth overall. Combined, the three of them ranked the country at fourth place overall.

These guys represented the Philippines.

Special awards were also given in recognition of drivers’ exceptional performances, with Aiman cinching Driver of the Day, the Philippines’ Russel Reyes taking home Best Racecraft, and Rama winning Fastest Race Pace.

TGR also held a Pro-AM Exhibition Race for media representatives, and a Distributor Exhibition Race for each country’s Toyota representatives.

Here, Jamil Lacuna of local motoring media outlet Autoindustriya.com together with Benaya Theo of Indonesia won first place together. Reph Bangsil finished in seventh place.

While for the Distributor Exhibition Race, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) AVP for Marketing Services Division Andy Ty also won first place, with TMP PR Specialist Allana Rufo finishing at eleventh.

The races were surely very intense and competitive. Let’s see how it goes in next year’s edition of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Gran Turismo Cup. Good job, Team Philippines! We are proud of you.
