Toyota Gazoo Racing goes retro for the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans

The world’s most prestigious motor race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, is coming up very soon, this June 14 and 15. A lot of brands have tried to take the crown in the past, and Toyota is the only other successful Japanese brand (the other being Mazda with the 787B) to have won the race.

Having lost out to Ferrari AF Corse in last year’s edition (by 14 seconds, no less), the Toyota Gazoo Racing team is looking to take the crown back in style, as it also celebrates the brand’s 40 years of competition in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a throwback livery to a very popular GT1-class car that Toyota fielded back in the late ‘90s.

The #7 GR010 Hybrid of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries will be wearing a red-and-white livery inspired by the iconic TS020 (also known as the GT-One). Instead of the white-nosed example that most are familiar with from games like Gran Turismo, this one is based on the 1998 car, with its pure red base color, and jagged white stripes all over.

Meanwhile, the #8 car driven by Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa will retain the standard matte black livery, as a reference of the present day, where the livery is said to embody the ideas of “Speed”, “Hate to lose” and the “Prototype” concept that reflects the brand’s ever continuing journey of evolution.
