Big changes are coming to EDSA for the upcoming rehab

As if the reinstation of the No Contact Apprehension Program (NCAP) wasn’t enough, social media is abuzz with the even bigger news of the EDSA rehabilitation that will begin starting June 13.
Several big changes are set to happen, according to a press conference live-streamed recently by both the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
Firstly, preparations will begin by June 13, so expect even more congestion as the necessary equipment and such will be prepared. Two weeks after, excavation work will begin.

The MMDA will address the congestion by instating an odd-even number coding scheme starting June 16, with a dry run happening for one week.
- Cars with plates ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 are prohibited on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- Meanwhile, cars with plates ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 are prohibited on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
- All vehicles are exempted on Sundays, and the likes of Transportation Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) such as Grab, and Joyride are also exempted.
Trucks and provincial buses will not be allowed during peak hours and, will only be permitted to traverse EDSA during window hours of 10:00pm to 5:00am.

The dedicated bike lane separators will be removed, and motorcycles will be given an exclusive lane, with the possibility of it being shared with cyclists. Two-wheelers will be banned from taking overpasses and underpasses.
Other measures the government will take are adding 100 buses to the EDSA Busway, adding more rolling stock to the MRT-3, clearing obstructions in alternate routes, and waving tolls for parts of the Skyway Stage-3 starting July or August.
