The latest in Philippine motoring

MIAS 2026 | The Jaecoo J5 SHS-H has been launched with prices starting at Php 999K

Omoda & Jaecoo (O&J) Philippines’ latest offering in its lineup of electrified vehicles is also shockingly affordable, as the Jaecoo J5 SHS-H has just been announced to the public at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show with a starting retail price of just under Php 1-million, making it the first hybrid electric vehicle you can buy at that price point.

The J5 shares its looks with its bigger J7 sibling, just scaled down in a few ways. It has slim LED headlights with a “waterfall front grille”, a streamlined side profile with 18-inch alloy wheels and recessed door handles, and a rear end with a sleek taillight design.

The car’s looks are very reminiscent of a current Range Rover, just smaller, and it’s also available in Snowy White, Alpine Green, Canyon Black, Glacier Blue, and Zircon Gray.

The interior features a vertical 13.2-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50W wireless charger, a panoramic glass roof, double-paned glass, and antibacterial upholstery for the seats. It also comes with 19 different advanced driver assistance systems.

The J5’s self-charging hybrid powertrain is the crossover’s main draw, with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, an electric motor, and a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).

And in classic O&J Philippines fashion, they can’t seem to decide on the powertrain’s power outputs, stating a monstrous 347 horsepower or 525Nm of torque on their press release, or 221 horsepower and 295Nm of torque on their official website.

Despite the power on tap, Jaecoo says that the vehicle’s range is around 980km with a combined fuel efficiency of 18.9km/l from its 51L fuel tank. 0 to 100kph acceleration time is also quoted at 7.9 seconds.

It comes in two variants, the Jaecoo J5 SHS-H Comfort, which goes for Php 999,000, and the Jaecoo J5 SHS-H Luxury, which brings the price tag up to Php 1,109,000.

If you purchase a vehicle during the motor show, you also get an additional Php 10,000 cash discount, a premium accessory upgrade, one year of free preventive maintenance service, a seven-year or 200,000km full vehicle warranty, and an eight-year or 160,000km electric powertrain warranty.

The Jaecoo J5 SHS-H also comes in a fully electric variant, which we managed to take a look at in China last year. Would you want Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines to introduce this to our market eventually?
