The Geely EX5 EM-i has received over 1,000 orders since its PH launch

The ongoing oil crisis isn’t doing good things for all of us. With high prices of fuel, many commodities are also seeing or on the verge of having increased pricing. But for the automotive industry, there is one benefit, and that’s increasing numbers of orders for electrified vehicles. This was even proven by last month’s vehicle sales which saw a huge increase in electrified vehicle sales.

One model that may be enjoying this is the Geely EX5 EM-i, seemingly having a very good start in the Philippine market, already receiving over 1,000 orders since it was launched locally less than a month ago.

In case you don’t know, the Geely EX5 EM-i is essentially a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the fully electric EX5. The compact crossover is aimed directly at the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i which was the country’s bestselling PHEV model in 2025. While we don’t have the exact number of orders, it’s still good to see that the market seems to have responded well to this new offering.

As a quick recap, the EX5 EM-i is available in the Philippines in two variants, with a starting price of Php 1,288,000, undercutting its BYD rival by a huge margin. It’s powered by a 1.5-liter engine that makes 99 horsepower and 125Nm of torque, paired to an electric motor that provides 217 horsepower and 262Nm, with an 18.4kWh LFP battery that allows for an all-electric driving range of 105km, or a combined range of 1,000km.

But other than the EX5 EM-i, there’s another new Geely model that’s already looking promising for our market–the yet-to-be-launched EX2.

The fully electric hatchback which is setting its sights on the BYD Seagull, the country’s bestselling battery electric vehicle (BEV) in 2025, and the larger BYD Dolphin. It was previewed at the recent 2026 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), and reservations were already opened. Since then, it has already received nearly 400 orders.

Once launched, the Geely EX2 will be powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that’s capable of 116 horsepower and 150Nm of torque, paired to a 39.4kWh LFP battery that provides up to 325km of range on a single full charge.

Despite the Geely brand’s rocky history in the Philippine market, especially prior to the takeover of Geely Motor Philippines, it looks like the market is ready to accept the brand once again. Let’s see in a couple of months how everything turns out.
