The latest in Philippine motoring

The Geely Xingyao 6 (Galaxy Starshine 6) is a plug-in hybrid sedan to be excited about

Last December, Geely Motor Philippines gave us a preview of several of its vehicles to expect in the near future. Two of these have already launched or are about to launch in our country, and we got to take a look at one of its more exciting plug-in hybrid sedan offerings.

This is the Geely Xingyao 6, otherwise known as the Galaxy Starshine 6 in other countries. It was codenamed P162, and as we mentioned before, this is Geely’s direct competitor to the BYD Seal 5 DM-i.

There are no final specifications, and Philippine specs are obviously set to change once it arrives in our country, but it’s something worth getting excited over.

It measures 4,806mm long, 1,886mm wide, and 1,490mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,756mm. For fans of Mercedes-Benz sedans, the Xingyao 6 looks very similar to one, with sleek LED headlights, a large front grille, and aggressive bumper vents that look AMG-inspired.

It rides on multi-spoke, machine-finished 17-inch wheels, and the rear end is slightly fastback-shaped with a lightbar treatment for the LED taillights.

The interior is also generously specced, with ventilated, power-adjustable leather seats, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch infotainment running the Flyme Auto operating system, with the operational buttons and knob on the center console beneath a wireless charger.

The rear bench seat is also generously sized and can seat two full-sized adults comfortably, with a rear air vent and USB port, alongside a center armrest.

Based on available Chinese specs, this will be utilizing the EM-i hybrid system, similar to what we can find on the EX5 EM-i crossover. A 1.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor allow for a power output of up to 161 horsepower. Battery sizes go up to 17 kWh, which is capable of going up to 125km (CLTC) on pure electric power, and up to 1,300km (CLTC) combined.

When Geely Motor Philippines brings this in, the compact sedan segment is looking to get shaken up once again, as Chinese manufacturers are looking to disturb the order that’s mostly dominated by Japanese sedans.
