The latest in Philippine motoring

These are the specs and features of the new GAC GS4 Max HEV for PH

GAC Philippines is being very aggressive in updating and expanding its local lineup. Last May, it introduced the Aion UT electric hatchback, followed by the refreshed GN6 and GN8, and new E8 just last month. Next in line is the GS4 Max and official specifications are now available.

The compact SUV nameplate is making a local comeback after a period of absence and by the looks of it, the GS4 Max could potentially be replacing the Emkoo HEV which essentially shares the same architecture, but with a restyled exterior and interior which we’ll talk about before getting into the details.

The GAC GS4 Max has slightly different measurements from the Emkoo at 4,685mm (+5mm) long and 1,690mm (+20mm) tall, with the same 1,901mm width and 2,750mm wheelbase. The overall body shape is the same, but there are design differences such as revised front and rear bumpers, and a different front fascia with a large front grille with a repeating rectangle pattern.

It also gets reshaped headlights, rides on a new set of alloy wheels, has a less sporty design for the tailgate spoiler, gains a rear windshield wiper, and the vertical taillights have been replaced by wraparound horizontal taillights with a light bar. As for its interior, it’s similar to the Emkoo’s, but with flatter center air vents instead of a cylindrical shape, and a new electronic gear selector that replaces the old selector toggle.

Based on the GAC Philippines website, we will be getting the GS4 Max in a single variant, likely to be called the GB. Standard equipment are full LED exterior lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, manual-folding side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, synthetic leather upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, automatic climate control, and a power-driver’s seat

It also gets a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, along with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a four-speaker sound system, a 50W wireless phone charger; and a suite of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) which includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and lane keep assist, among others.

Pricing for the GAC GS4 Max is not yet available at the time of this writing, but we can expect it to be launched very soon, only delayed by the recent weather disturbances in the country. With it still unclear whether it will replace the GAC Emkoo or be sold alongside it, which among the two sibling models would you prefer?
