This camouflaged MPV could be the facelifted Hyundai Custin

If you’ve forgotten about the Hyundai Custin, we don’t blame you. The Korean automaker’s China-sourced MPV has been overshadowed by more popular rivals such as the Toyota Zenix, BYD eMax 7, and the like. It does however look like we can expect it to attempt to bounce back sometime soon.
A heavily camouflaged example of what’s definitely the updated Hyundai Custin simply parked along a small street in Makati City, exposed for everyone to see. This is obvious from the shape of its windows and the rear end which still shows hints of the six-seater MPV despite its covering.

Upon taking a closer look at it, strong indications that it’s going to be a very big update are visible. The front fascia appears to be more upright and takes on a more blocky appearance, similar to what we see on the current Creta and Stargazer, and it also gets redesigned 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels.

With the heavy camouflage, it looks like the rest of the exterior remains the same, such as the rear with its wraparound taillights, the windows as mentioned, a regular sized sunroof, and its dual sliding doors.
Taking a peek through the windows reveals a major update to the interior, gaining a more horizontal and layered layout. The digital instrument cluster is no longer integrated to the dashboard and has been moved closer to the windshield, it gets sleeker airconditioning vents, new physical climate controls, a column-mounted gear selector, and a new steering wheel that uses Hyundai’s H morse code logo.

What’s really noticeable though is the possible new infotainment system which, like many new models these days, will extend to the passenger side. This will replace the vertical infotainment system with chintzy graphics and integrated analog-style speedometer which wasn’t really a favorite. Hopefully, with the new hardware, it also adopts Hyundai’s new Android-based Pleos Connect operating system.
Given the major redesigns inside and out, we think that we could also see the possibility of a new electrified powertrain. For reference, the current Hyundai Custin’s powertrain is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 170 horsepower and 253Nm of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
This isn’t the first time the facelifted Hyundai Custin was spotted out in the wild as it was also previously spotted in a basement parking lot in South Korea. Given the timing, we could expect this to be fully unveiled within the year, and will hopefully give the Korean automaker a much needed boost once it arrives here.
