PIMS 2026 | Jaecoo follows up with the J5 EV and a preview of its J8 PHEV flagship

Shortly after Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines launched its most affordable hybrid vehicle in the Jaecoo J5 SHS-H back in April at the Manila International Auto Show, it’s now following up with its electric sibling, the Jaecoo J5 EV.
The Jaecoo J5 EV comes in one variant for our market–the Standard that’s priced at Php 1.4-million.

It’s powered by a front-mounted electric motor with a maximum power output of 210 horsepower and 288Nm of torque, mated to a 58.90kWh LFP battery pack. The maximum range is up to 461km (NEDC), and it can charge up to 130kW via a DC charger, allowing for a 30 to 80% charging time of around 28 minutes.

It looks just like its hybrid sibling, albeit with a cleaned-up, EV-optimized front fascia, smaller, simplified bottom grille, and a faux lightbar up front with a “JAECOO” found inside. It rides on aerodynamic 18-inch wheels, and the rear end also mirrors the front’s faux lightbar design with clear taillights.
Inside, it has a minimal-looking dashboard with a strip of piano black that houses the 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 13.2-inch vertical infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. It also has all-black fabric upholstery for the manual six-way adjustable seats, a panoramic glass roof, soft-touch materials in the cabin, wireless charging, multi-color ambient lighting, and a load-bearing roof rack.
It has a 360-degree camera and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems, like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and more.
The Jaecoo J5 EV comes with a seven-year or 200,000km full vehicle warranty, and an eight-year or 160,000km electric powertrain warranty.
Apart from the Jaecoo J5 EV, the brand also previewed its flagship offering in the J8 PHEV. Sporting an imposing appearance with a long body that measures 4,820mm long, 1,930mm wide, 1,710mm tall, and a wheelbase of 2,820mm, this goes up against other premium three-row SUV offerings like the Mazda CX-8, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Kia Sorento.

This is evident with its initial features, where it rides on 20-inch wheels with premium tire choices, interior materials such as Nappa leather and wood-grain or aluminum trim, the option for either six or seven seats, and loads of tech like a Sony sound system, a full ADAS suite, and more are available.
According to publicly available information, it’ll be available in three trims: Luxury (seven seats), Executive (seven seats), and Flagship (six seats). They’re all powered by the same 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine mated to a dedicated hybrid transmission, but the differences come in the electric motors.

The Luxury comes with front wheel drive and two electric motors, allowing for a combined power output of 306 horsepower and 450Nm of torque, and it’s paired with a 19.43kWh NMC battery that allows for up to 90km of pure electric driving, or a combined range of 1,350km.
Meanwhile, the Executive and Flagship grades come with all wheel drive thanks to three electric motors. Combined power output is a healthy 428 horsepower and 580Nm of torque, and the battery size has been bumped up to 34.46kWh NMC battery with up to 169km of pure electric driving, or a combined range of 1,300km.
Of course, more information will be available closer to the vehicle’s launch, but it’s interesting to see Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines tackle both ends of the market by getting both the budget and premium segments.
