New BYD Seal 5 DM-i can drive way more than its projected 1,600km range

If there’s one thing that makes the BYD brand so strong in our market, it’s the fact that its plug-in hybrid DM-i lineup mostly boast more than 1,000km of driving range, and the same goes for the newly launched BYD Seal 5 DM-i and BYD Atto 2 DM-i.

But beyond their projected range figures, these two vehicles can actually drive quite a bit more, based on the results of internal testing by BYD Cars Philippines themselves.

The BYD Atto 2 DM-i was able to achieve 1,340.1km on a single full tank of gas and single full charge of its battery. This is 295.1km more than its estimated 1,045km of combined range from its 1.5-liter engine, electric motor, and 7.9kWh LFP battery.

Meanwhile, the BYD Seal 5 DM-i was able to achieve quite the feat with its own results, driving 2,184.4km on a single full tank of gas and single full charge. This is 584.4km more than its 1,600km estimated combined driving range, and if you think about it, makes it possible to refuel only five times between the vehicle’s preventive maintenance service which happens every 10,000km.

It is worth noting that the BYD Seal 5 DM-i comes with an upgraded powertrain. The fifth-generation Super DM-i system makes less power and torque, but comes with an upgraded LFP battery, and larger fuel tank.

We’ll have more details, such as the exact route driven by the two models during their real-world range testing, as well as the different parameters used such as climate control temperature, fuel type, number of passengers and luggage, and more, once they become available to us.

With these very high range figures from the BYD Atto 2 DM-i and BYD Seal 5 DM-i, are they now more compelling to you, or will you stick to full EVs or traditional pure ICE vehicles?
